Pay $175 (regularly $350) for one VIP admission package to the three-hour ZooFari gala on May 16. Your VIP package includes admission to the LivingSocial Lion Lounge, specialty cocktails, appearances by three celebrity chefs, a premium take-home treat, an exclusive after-hours viewing of the Zoo's lions and tigers, and parking. Presenting...The Cricket in Times Square! When little country cricket Chester mistakenly travels by picnic basket to New York City, his music is transformed forever. Chester's pitch-perfect chirps accompany classical sounds to make him a Times Square sensation in this world premiere retelling of George Selden's Newbery Honor book, The Cricket in Times Square, composed and adapted by jazz innovator and genre-bending modern classical composer Chris Brubeck. Join the NSO, Chester Cricket as performed by a solo violin, and Chester's buddies--Mario, Tucker Mouse, and Harry Cat--portrayed by actors, for a funny, sweet, and magically musical story of a little cricket finding his voice in the big city. Age 5 and up. Come early for the Musical Instrument "Petting Zoo." An hour before each NSO Family Concert, young concertgoers can get up close and hands-on with the instruments they'll see played on the stage--from violins, trumpets, and oboes to trombones and percussion--in the Kennedy Center Atrium. A project of the Women's Committee for the NSO. Stay after the 3 p.m. concerts for a Kids' Chat. Following the 3 p.m. concert, young audience members can ask questions and hear engaging stories in an up-close-and-personal talk with the concert artists.
