Remember the old school days when kids got on their bikes and spent their summer days with friends at the playground? Those were special times. HoopEd aims to bring kids back to the playground this summer with two fantastic camps that put FUN back into playing. Period! First, HoopEd camps are designed to encourage kids of all abilities to play and experience new sports and games. Through small-group instruction and personal coaching, HoopEd aims to reach kids between the ages of 5-13 by making camp fun, special and unique each day. For summer 2013, HoopEd will offer two types of youth camps at schools in and around the greater Washington, DC area: All-Sports and Games and HOOPS Basketball All-Sports and Games Camp allows kids to learn new sports and game activities in a safe and controlled environment. Coaches teach the rules of the playground by incorporating the kids as leaders and peer mediators on the playground. Every activity stresses the importance of sportsmanship and being honest in play. Games include kickball, soccer, flag football, whiffle ball, and basketball to all sorts of dodge ball games, Capture the Flag, and even old school "Kick the Can!" HOOPS Basketball Camp are specialized to allow campers to thrive in small, intimate instructional environments where learning and fun go hand in hand. Camps are purposefully kept small so that all participants receive the attention they need to have a great experience learning the game they love. Each day of camp will have skill development sessions in the morning and plenty of team games throughout the day. Skills include dribbling, shooting, passing, pivoting, rebounding, and defense. Also, each player will be assigned a team to play on for the day and throughout the week. There are individual contests each day and, of course, they always include the famous "HoopEd Money Shot!". Back by popular demand for 2013 summer camps is a Junior All-Sports & Games camp for boys and girls, ages 5-7, at St. Bernadette’s Catholic School in Silver Spring. Similar in design to the full Sports & Games curriculum, the junior group plays similar games and challenge activities, but the emphasis is to create an environment where kids of all skill levels and abilities feel comfortable and included.
