Well, after a couple-plus decades on this Earth, we can finally say we sat at a piano and ate sushi. Allow us to explain further: we visited Sushi Rock, the cool, peaceful oasis across from some major Courthouse/Clarendon construction (R.I.P. Dremo’s), where the décor is as creative as the menu. That’s thanks to Seokhoon “Steve” Yoon, the chef/owner, who’s always coming up with new, bigger and better ideas to top is last bigger and better idea. Like, the baby grand piano he recently installed in the middle of the sleek, rock ‘n roll-themed dining room. While that would’ve been a cool feature in and of itself, he decided to retrofit it with bar seating. Genius! On said awesome piano bar, we then watched as he placed a few of his most popular creations in front of our dazzled eyes. We began with the Tornado Roll. Featuring spicy yellowtail, jalapeno and cream cheese, tempura and sweet miso sauce, this wasn’t your average sushi. Next up, we sampled the Volcano. Over a bed of sea scallop sushi and served in a bowl is masago, scallions, sriracha, crabstick, cucumber and avocado, which gave it a creamy consistency. For the purists, the nigiri won’t disappoint. "We make everything in-house," said Steve. Freshness (and fun) guaranteed. Menu Highlights: Volcano Maki Roll, $13 Chirashi Bowl (sashimi on sushi rice), $20 Tornado Roll, $12 Roasted Veggie Roll, $10 Nigiri Set, $20 Bulgogi Sliders, $10 Locally made gelato, $5 Plus, everything can be made with brown rice upon request!
