Although unassuming from the main street, when we turned the corner onto Metro Park Drive, we instantly knew where we were going—DAT PATIO. Lively and filled with business-types from the neighboring office buildings, a few even enjoying a midday cigar and a drank, what we ended up being drawn to most were the heaping plates of tasty New American cuisine. This isn’t your average American bar and grill, folks. For one, it’s the most environmentally friendly in Virginia, having been the first restaurant in Virginia to become a certified member of the U.S. Green Building Council. More importantly to our taste buds, though, this is next level culinary satisfaction, featuring local, sustainably grown ingredients and humanely treated proteins. For lunch, there’s a list of soups, salads and sandwiches to dive into, like the Turkey Club, which comes piled as high as anything from a New York deli. Dinner turns the kitchen’s creativity up a notch. The filet mignon is a solid option, served with horseradish pommes puree, citrus-marinated asparagus, crispy beer-battered onion rings and a malbec-balsamic reduction. But alas, our favorite foodstuff at this sleekly decorated Alexandria eatery might have been the cheesecake. This dessert most definitely beats anything that comes out of a factory, and luckily is available for all the day’s important meals: lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Menu Highlights: Filet Mignon, $29 Salmon Nicoise Salad, $15 (lunch)/$17 (dinner) Sautéed Jumbo Sea Scallops, $24 Turkey Club, $10 Walker’s Grilled Cheese w/Avocado, $8.50 Hours: Monday – Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.* Sunday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.** *Monday - Friday dinner menu begins at 4 p.m. **Saturday and Sunday brunch served till 3 p.m.
