A wild and wooly rapid ride is just moments away from Seattle in the town of Gold Bar, thanks to Alpine River Runners, hosts of this zozi Exclusive trip down the Skykomish River. Upon arrival at headquarters you and a friend will be transported with a small group toward the launch point. Take a guided hike featuring sweeping mountain views, streams, and breathtaking waterfalls as you make your way to the river. Safety discussions and paddling practice follow, then load into your raft and get ready for a thrilling ride through rapids such as Buttering the Biscuit, Bonsai, Lunch Hole, and Railroad. Boulder Drop Rapid comes into view approximately 4 miles into the trip, where your raft will halt so everyone can look around and decide as a group whether or not to run this exhilarating rapid or to walk down the boulders. Post whitewater excursion, you'll be transported back to headquarters where a meal of burritos, chips and salsa, and dessert await your famished frame. Ready to sleep under the stars, get back to basics and prove you're capable of tackling a beast of a mountain? This overnight trip is a chance for you to sharpen your climbing skills under the tutelage of professional instructor. It's also a real escape from urban life to a wild mountain peppered with giant glaciers, temperate rain forests and breathtaking views. You and the group will begin hiking through gradually-changing ecosystems to the sub-alpine Shannon Ridge. Then, surmount the mighty Sulphide Glacier before reaching the summit; here you'll rock scramble to the top and finish by rappelling back down. (It's not a guarantee that your group will make it to the summit, but this is typically the case). You'll learn while doing, getting schooled in everything from crampon and ice axe use to managing steep terrain, belay options, rappelling and self-arrest.
