Though a pub fare staple today, fish and chips were once the workingman’s choice for eating on the go, especially in the United Kingdom. And while plenty of takeaway fish and chips stands still exist across Europe, the food is not as readily available in the United States. That’s why the founders of Spud Fish & Chips brought the concept to Seattle in 1935, creating their first fried seafood outpost by the shore. Not much has changed since then—including the menu, which features basic fish and chips (hand-battered and hand-cut), fried oysters, scallops, and clams, as well as chicken strips for non-seafood lovers. Grab a milkshake and take your food out back to overlook Green Lake—another Seattle icon that hasn’t changed much since the golden years.
