A hit right from its 1980 debut on Broadway, "42nd Street" follows the journey of star-struck chorus girl Peggy Sawyer as she tries to make her mark in show business. It's a timeless tale of dedication, hard work, talent and being in the right place at the right time. And, of course, there's also a love story. Set during the Great Depression, "42nd Street" is filled with terrific tap dancing and famous musical numbers, including "We're in the Money," "You're Getting to Be a Habit With Me," "Lullaby of Broadway" and the title song. This lively hit show won a Tony Award for its original 1980 production and then again for its 2001 Broadway revival, and it continues to thrill audiences today.
As much a cultural phenomenon as a musical, "CATS" enjoyed a record-breaking run on Broadway and in London, thanks to its exciting feline-inspired dancing and memorable songs. The story, inspired by a poetry collection from T.S. Eliot, revolves around the Jellicle cats, a nocturnal tribe of cats who meet in their favorite alley for their annual ball. Each cat does its best to impress Old Deuteronomy, the head tomcat, because he will select one of them to ascend to "the Heaviside layer" where that special cat will be reborn into a brand new life. The spectacular array of songs by legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber includes "Memory," which has become a standard in the years since the musical's debut.
