As sure as we are that a cherry blossom will draw a crowd of amateur photographers, exotic fish sourced directly from Japan will certainly draw a dining room full of loyal eaters. And Amura is doing just that, bringing a slew of fresh fish with names we can't pronounce right to our table. Helmed by two sushi chefs, who were trained in Japan and have been working in the New York sushi scene for a while, Amura has been plating up beautiful and tasty rolls and other traditional cuisine for the past year, and we're embarrassed it took us this long to find it. To start our Japanese journey off right, we ordered up some pork or veggie gyoza and a spicy tuna pancake with avocado and tuna. Then we dove right into the main attraction with the specialty rolls, like the Truffle Toro Roll with blue fin toro and jalapeno, topped with white truffle oil; the Angry Bird Roll with spicy scallop, avocado, seared salmon and black tobiko; and the Perfect Match with sliced tuna, salmon, yellowtail and mango. We're a sucker for anything tempura, so we couldn't get enough of the Rock Shrimp Tempura Roll either with fresh avocado. Yup, we're stuffed.
