Descending into this cozy East Village restaurant, you might not know what era you’re in: Billie Holiday croons from speakers while walls are speckled with portraits of bygone stars from Frank Sinatra to the Clash. The food is similarly eclectic, a bold mix of Italian comfort with New Orleans soul. Kick off your meal with the jambalaya balls, a Creole riff on the Sicilian fried rice ball arancini, stuffed with smoky andouille sausage, tasso ham, and rock shrimp. The crispy Greek fries are addictive, topped with feta, herbs, chili, and lemon, and are best dug into with a fork.
