We love a good dinner theater—the camp, the strong cocktails, the unusually intimate venues. What we love even more is dinner theater with a sense of humor and a sense of neighborhood. And a full bar. (We musn't forget that.) So, it was true love when we sat down at The Underground Lounge, which is happily exposing the Upper West Side to underground performances and above-ground delicacies. Recently under new management by a producer with theatre cred, The Underground, housed in a turn-of-the-century building that once held both a Communist bookstore and Robin Gibbon's mother's tea shop, recently had a little bit of an update. There's a new wrap-around patio out front and a new chef who's turned the food offerings up a couple notches. For your dining needs (available both during a show or just over in the bar whenever), grab a rustic gorgonzola pizzette or a BBQ pulled pork slider. On our visit, we couldn't resist the recently added mussels and frites. The rich aioli sauce went great with the side of fries, all washed down with an ice-cold beer. In terms of the entertainment next door, there's a regular Friday night show, Let My People Come, a Sexual Musical, rotating house bands, open mic nights and more. Long live the theater! Menu Highlights: Hummus Plate, $8 Gorgonzola Apple Piazzette, $10 BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders, $10 Mussels & Fries, $12 Hours: Monday-Friday, 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. Saturday & Sunday, noon to 4 a.m.
