Kids Art Class Deals in New Orleans
It was only recently that mothers of budding artists began to post great works on the fridge, so we can only imagine how they supported their children before the advent of modern appliances. Go way beyond the freezer door with today's deal from KidzArt: Pay $6 for one art class session (regularly $12.50), with locations in Westwego and Marrero. Using a kid-tested curriculum that meets the National Visual Arts Standards, the dynamic KidzArt program introduces your child -- ages 7 to 13 -- to the fundamentals of drawing and puts more focus on the process than the finished product, promoting self-expression and use of imagination. Students will express their creativity while learning to draw in a fun, welcoming, and noncompetitive environment. When they return home, you'll be proud to stick those masterpieces all over the house.
As a child, you enjoyed trips to the art galleries in grade school, but you always left wishing you could create something worthy of a wall-hanging. Live out your dreams -- or treat your own youngster -- with today's deal from Studio 831: For $25 (regularly $50), create a piece of New Orleans art using a printmaking technique called linocut. Come in to the studio's Royal Street home on May 12 or 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The instructor will design and cut out a template in linoleum, then budding artists use watercolors to add their own flair. Finish it off by running the 9x11 piece through the lino press to add a touch of NOLA, such as a fleur-de-lis or a crawfish. Parents and children alike will be inspired while soaking in the French Quarter's rich history at the studio's Royal Street home. Little ones will also enjoy the popcorn machine, hot dog cart, and other kid-friendly extras on site. Feel like a part of the city's amazing art scene -- and start decorating your own walls with personal masterpieces. Want more? Check out Studio 831 on Facebook.
