Hot air balloons were originally designed as sky prisons for bullies to spend the rest of their natural lives cruelly mocking the weightlessness of timid clouds. Enjoy a less insulting application of aeronautics with this Groupon. $125 for One Admission to a Hot Air Balloon Ride ($250 Value) Many of R.O. Franks's balloons accommodate up to four passengers, and the company's giant balloon, The Dragon, can ferry up to 14. During this approximately 60-minute float, passengers soar at altitudes between 1,000 and 3,000 feet with views of downtown Asheville, sprawling farm landscapes, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. Never underestimate the culinary powers of a high-quality olive oil. It’s one of the few things (aside from a good bottle of bubbly—impromptu celebrations are the best) that we believe every person should have in his or her kitchen. And you don’t have to be a culinary wizard to taste the benefits. Even seasoned chefs will tell you, a little high quality olive oil and artisan balsamic vinegar can turn something as simple as a caprese salad into something truly decadent. All that said, though, you’re not gonna find the good stuff in the grocery store. But the folks at Olivia Olive Oil, an olive oil tasting room and shop located in Franklin, have got you covered with over 30 high-quality extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars to choose from. By purchasing directly from olive groves (and only award-winning groves, we might add), Olivia Olive Oil owner Christi knows the process that goes into the pressing of every olive oil she carries. From flavored oils (rather than infusing the oils, the flavors are crushed with the olives, which gives the oil a strong, lasting flavor) to olive oil from the oldest grove in Spain, there’s something for every dish. (Dare we say, even ice cream. Seriously!) While the Italian spice blend mixed with the champagne mimosa vinegar tops our list, we recommend channeling your inner mixologist to find what combination best suits your taste. Or just ask Christi and the staff for help. They know there [food]stuff. Menu Highlights: Italian Spice Blend Olive Oil Orange Olive Oil Champagne Mimosa Vinegar Raspberry Balsamic Vinegar Hours: Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
John “Chappy” Chapman, who learned his way around a kitchen from his mother, always dreamed of owning and operating his own restaurant. That dream came true in 1984 when Chappy’s Seafood Restaurant opened in Long Beach, Mississippi. But when it was completely demolished by Hurricane Katrina, Chappy and his family relocated to Nashville, and in 2006 reopened as Chappy’s On Church. While many restaurants in Nashville offer Cajun-inspired dishes, no one does it quite like Chappy. What’s his secret? He maintains that he cooks with love. “Cooking with love means that we care about the food and how our customers feels about it,” he said. “When a plate comes back clean, that makes us happy. We strive to make that happen every time.” In addition to New Orleans classics, like crayfish etouffee and red beans and rice, Chappy’s also offers beef, veal, lamb and a whole lotta homemade desserts (red velvet cake, anyone?). And whether you’re coming in for lunch, dinner or Chappy’s famous weekend champagne brunch, Chappy and his crew are happy to accommodate your dietary needs or personal preferences (there are, like, 85 vegetarian options, no joke!) because that’s what cooking with love is all about. Menu Highlights: Turtle Soup au Sherry Crayfish Etouffee Creamy Crab Bisque Chappy’s Thick Cut Prime Rib Red Velvet Cake Hours: LUNCH Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. DINNER Monday - Friday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. (brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
