Description
Eklektix Theatre Company presents "Spring Awakening", performed in concert. This youthful coming-of-age musical took Broadway by storm when it debuted, winning eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Based on an Expressionist play that caused a scandal in 19th-century Germany, it's a bold and touching musical that captures the timeless and turbulent experience of youth transitioning to adulthood. Punctuated by an acclaimed rock score by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, "Spring Awakening" follows a group of teenagers as they navigate the confusing and often troubled waters of adolescence and their budding sexuality. The characters grapple with such issues as teen suicide, pregnancy and identity -- topics that remain relevant to today's teens over a century after the play was first written.
