Why You Should Go: Sometimes you feel like an elegant meal. But more often, you just feel too lazy to dress up and make a big production. When you just want to grab a burger at the bar while catching the game in a friendly pub-like environment, head to the aptly named Lazy Lanigan's Publick House. Why You’ll Love It: A classic tavern where friends gather to watch Phillies, Eagles, 76ers, and Flyers games, Lazy Lanigan’s combines two of your greatest loves: great food and great beer. Along with local craft beers and international bottles, you’ll enjoy a heated patio, pool tables, a full bar, and TV’s. What to Eat: Lazy Lanigan’s menu is full of classic pub grub that always hits the spot. Share a plate of wings (prepared five ways), pulled pork quesadillas, or peel & eat shrimp with a table of friends, or grab that burger you’ve been craving all week, building your own with toppings like bacon, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and bleu cheese.
Locals, sports fans, and the Texas press know that when it comes to catching the game in an upscale, nontraditional sports bar, Frankie's Sports Bar and Grill in Uptown is the place to be: $10 for $20 to spend on food and non-alcoholic drinks Bose sound system, digital jukebox, pool table, and leather sofas to entertain you Extensive menu: fried cheese curds, battered stuffed jalapeños, dry-rubbed wings, juicy burgers, and more innovative bar fare "Located deep in the heart of Dallas, Frankie’s is nirvana for Texas sports fans" -- USA Today
The bane of every sports fan's existence is that sports aren't on ALL THE TIME. Occasionally, you have to interact with people who aren't wearing numbered jerseys, or go to places that aren't built around making it easier to cram baseball in your eyeholes. More specifically, conventional wisdom states that you can't spend all your time in a sports bar. Which is a shame, frankly, because sports bars are awesome (all the TVs!). That is, of course, unless you find just the right sports bar that only feels like a sports bar on game day. On all the other, tragically sports-less days, it should just feel like a great restaurant at which you'd be happy to be called a regular. That mythical hybrid exists in Dallas, and it's known as Christie's. “We fall victim to the Gary Coleman Effect all the time,” says owner Cheston. “We get typecast as a sports bar, but we're so much more than that.” First and foremost, Christie's is a great place to get good food. This place does a lot of things well, starting at the top of the menu with the Awesome Jalapeños. These are housemade, deep-fried jalapeños stuffed with pulled pork and covered in melted cheese. They're excellent for sharing, or to hog all to yourself when your team just lost “the big game” and you want to eat your feelings. The Christie's Signature Burger, which is as a good a representation of the art form as you'll likely to find in Uptown, is also a solid bet. And while it may surprise you to find that Christie's makes a mean plate of enchiladas, which it does, it won't come as a shock that said enchiladas pair perfectly with beer, baseball (on a freakin' HUGE TV), and the satisfaction of finding the best of both the restaurant and the sports bar worlds. Menu Highlights Awesome Jalapeños, $8.95 Christie's Signature Burger, $9.95 Enchiladas, $9.95 Hours: Daily, 11a.m. to 2a.m.
