It's a question we've all asked ourselves before, usually out loud and with a hint of exasperation: "Where's all the good live music in this city?" The answer to that query is tucked just below street level on a small stretch of W. 3rd Street, just south of Washington Square Park. For the past 16 years (plus four more at a location on Houston), Zinc Bar has been staging some of the best in live jazz, Latin, world, tango and Brazilian music around, with shows happening seven nights a week. Owner Alex, who comes from a family with show biz in its blood, moves around his dark, jazz-era decorated space with a comfort that only comes from years of experience in entertaining. The front room is decked out with a stainless-steel bar stocked with vintage decanters and a classic champagne chiller, with restored art-deco etched mirrors as a final touch. In the way of libations, the rotating cocktails list is curated by his good friend Alex Ott, aka Dr. Cocktail, who just happens to be a celebrated master mixologist. Once you've picked your artisanal poison, move on back past the dark velvet curtain and grab a table in the intimate music venue and settle in for a night of worldly tunes. Menu Highlights: Artisanal Cocktails, $10 to $14 Hours: Sunday - Thrusday, 6:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday & Saturday, 6:30 p.m. to 3 a.m.
