Description

This Little Piggy Had Roast Beef. Yes, bovine is so sublime that even one of that nursery rhyme's porcine protagonists reveled in a treat of delicious cow. Now, the restaurant named after that famous stanza is bringing Staten Island hoagies to city folk, thanks to owner Will Gallagher and his childhood friends Francis Garcia and Sal Basille (who also co-own Artichoke). TLPHRB (acronyms are in!) looks feels and even sounds like a '40s-era canteen. Even more with the theme, the wee kitchen lacks a freezer and microwave, obliterating any doubt about the freshness of the sandwiches, which speaking of, are divine. Enjoy a grinder your way or This Way, stacked on a roll with au jus and Cheez Whiz. Reverse positions and eat it That Way, on Italian bread with mozzarella. Don’t assume supremacy of That Way over This Way due to its lack of orange overlay. A good whiz—Kraft Cheez Whiz—costs more than mozzarella pound-for-pound. The proof: This Little Piggy goes through $1,500 of the stuff a month, coating mighty mounds of meat that would do even Ron Swanson proud. This summer they'll be hitting the street fair circuit with their new combo platter, which will feature a That Way sandiwich, a cup of au jus, macaroni and potato salad and a Boylans soda all for $10. Don't feel like scarfing that all down in the heat? No sweat, the platter is also available at their well-air conditioned East Village store front! Menu Highlights: This Way, $5.50 roll; $9.50 hero That Way, $5.50 roll; $9.50 Italian bread Popeye Way (roast beef, provolone, au jus, spinach), $9.50 roll or wrap; $12.50 hero The Other Thing (pastrami on rye with coleslaw and spicy brown mustard), $12.50 Roast beef slider, $2.50 Lobster fries (lobster bisque over hand-cut fries), $7.50 Hours: Sunday - Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday & Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 a.m.
