Scout Notes: With pink and green striped walls, black chandeliers, and the smell of freshly baked cupcakes constantly wafting through the air, it’s hard not to find yourself in a cheerful mood the moment you set foot in The Painted Cupcake. Like so many of our favorite Scoutmob merchants, Tracey Davenport began toying with the idea of opening her own business after the economy took a turn for the worse. She longed to bring something fun and carefree to the Nashville area in an effort to help people forget about the stresses of every day life—even if just for a moment. Over the years, Tracey became known as the official baker in her family (she learned how to decorate cakes at the age of 15 while working at Baskin Robins), and so a cupcake shop seemed like the logical move (who doesn’t like some confectionary goodness every once in a while?). In 2009, The Painted Cupcake opened for business in Nashville’s historic downtown Arcade, and in 2011 a need for more space prompted them to move to their current location in Green Hills (they’re now able to host birthday parties, bridal showers, etc.). While cupcakes are their specialty (they have mini cupcakes, too!), The Painted Cupcake also offers pies (as requested), homemade marshmallows, and our personal favorite, French macarons. Everything is baked from scratch the morning it’s served and while the flavors change daily, they always have a huge selection to choose from. Our favorite? It’s a three-way tie between the Rockin’ Turtle, Strawberry Fields, and The Ike Johnson (red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting). In a hurry? The Painted Cupcake offers curbside pickup, as well as delivery for orders over a dozen.
