Scout Notes:In a neighborhood normally associated with bland college bars where students throw cheap...anything down their gullets, the Malt House comes as sweet relief. With a tap list of 24 beers, and a total of 40 more by the bottle or can, there is nary a PBR or Bud in sight. While the list focuses predominately on American craft beers, the variety of what you can get is astounding, including a specially brewed Malt House Amber, the new Bronx Pale Ale, and Empire White Aphro. Their beer menu comes with helpful descriptors and tasting notes, just in case you need a little guidance and, if you enjoy a little sustanence with your drinking, they've got you covered. Try elevated pub food like the ribeye sandwich with provolone sauce, or the buttermilk fried chicken burger. The BBQ baby back ribs are also a don't miss. The atmosphere befits the neighborhood--all exposed brick, long wooden bar tables, and low, almost gothic lighting fixtures that keep the mood cave-like and cozy.
