"DownBeat Magazine" called saxophonist Chris Potter "one of the most studied (and copied) saxophonists on the planet." Potter recorded his first album some 20 years ago and has since earned a rep as the most skilled saxophonist of his generation, an improviser of deft insight and athletic poise. He maintains a high profile both as a sideman to such artists as Steely Dan and guitarist Pat Metheny and as the leader of the plugged-in quartet Underground. Now you can experience the rock- and funk-infused jazz sounds of Underground at Jazz at Lincoln Center's The Allen Room. The group's latest album, "The Sirens", draws on Homer's "The Odyssey" for inspiration, and word has it that the CD is every bit as epic as the poem.
