Scout Notes: If you've ever rejoiced in the act of transporting fresh-off-the-taps draft beer to your own living room, you have these guys to thank. Many moons ago (back in 2010), a brave little beer shop in Athens singlehandedly dragged the state of Georgia into the 21st century and helped us win our inalienable rights to fresh draft beer. Armed with a love for craft beer, an undaunted sense of optimism and a handy little plastic seal that made the sale of filled growlers perfectly legal, the three gents behind The Beer Growler gave Georgia our very first growler shop. And all the beer lovers in Atlanta lived hoppily ever after. A couple years later, the handy beer jugs with the fun-to-say monikers are the vessel of choice for local beer connoisseurs who want to sip on some suds they might not normally be able to find in bottles at their local store. And thanks to the 40something taps at the ready on The Beer Growler's wall o' brews, you're pretty likely to find a new favorite craft beer (or cider, or soda) with each visit. From locals like Wild Heaven and newcomer Blue Tarp to Belgian imports like St. Bernardus, the always-rotating taps always have a brew and style for just about any beer lover. And if you're wary of navigating all those choices, fear not: the beer-lovers behind the counter are regularly quizzed by the folks in charge to make sure their skills are top-notch. (But really, in a place like this, is there really such a thing as a wrong choice?) Menu Highlights: Bell's Two Hearted Ale Duck Rabbit Brown Ale Sweetwater Happy Ending Blue Tarp Bantam Weight Wild Heaven Invocation Hours: Mon. - Thurs., 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Fri. & Sat., 10 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sun., 12:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.

My girlfriend saw this place the other day and, being fans of Da Beer, we decided to go check it out. The guys working there proved to be very knowledgeable about their product, and pretty friendly as well. It's fantastic to have the opportunity to get large bottles of beers you might not have tried before without having to go to a specialty beer bar or ordering a case online or something (only to find out, maybe, that you might not like the beer you just ordered). I hope this one's around to stay!Celine N. on YelpThe Beer Growler just opened in Avondale Estates...been driving by and saw the sign for a while. They were literally still setting up things today when I walked in. They have a nice selection of beer and ciders, more than enough for a lightweight like me and enough local and import that I can get a different one each time for a while. You pay about $4 for the jug, once, then you bring it back and they give you a sterilized one each time and fill it with your choice of beer on tap. Pretty awesome, very friendly and helpful owners...I'm giving it 5 stars now based on the customer service, location, store appearance and choice of beers according to my tastes (lightweight)!Lisa A. on YelpAfter having been prodded by friends to join the "growler" trend, I hoppily (ha) decided to jump on board. After a pretty non-eventful trip to Whole Foods and Sherlocks in Decatur, I headed over to the Beer Growler in Avondale. What a set up! This is a beer drinker's greatest dream come true: fresh delicious beers, 35+ choices, two sizes and within walking distance to my house. And with the added bonus of being green, what is there not to be thrilled about? Folks are hospitable and informative and I am sold! Love this place!
