Tavern on Jane Coupons and Deals
Don't be misled by the word "tavern" in Tavern on Jane's name. While it's accurate in that the restaurant has the warm, familiar service you'd expect from a neighborhood watering hole, the term doesn't prepare you for the experience that awaits inside this West Village institution. Think sauteed skate with caper-citrus vinaigrette, and crispy pork belly with andouille sausage; imagine beer braised short ribs and charred tuna hand rolls. Even after nearly two decades of satisfying discerning locals, the menu here remains alive, ambitious and exemplary. Don't get us wrong: if you want a beer, they'll hook it up. But if you're stopping by just for a brew, you'll be missing out on one of the area's most rewarding meals. Everything here shouts "classic New York"; this is the sort of iconic Village aesthetic that makes you forget that not all of Manhattan is quite so relaxed, cozy, and filled with people you'd be eager to befriend. Once you settle in to your table, you get to pick through Taven on Jane's array of American comfort standards, all executed with innovative flair (and by innovative, we also mean "unstoppably delicious"). The regular menu is stocked with everything from gorgeous grilled pizzas to yellowfin tuna tacos that are so good they're the ideal rejoinder to anyone who claims New York can't make a fish taco to save its life. Things get even more exciting on the sheet of daily specials, a constantly updated list of dishes you'd cross town to get your taste buds on: cornish hen, roasted pork loin, double cut pork chops stuffed with apples. Everything is substantial and fulfilling, and, yes, goes great with something from the bar. We recommend a martini, or better yet, a Manhattan; the bartenders make a mean one, and food this good deserves something more stately than a bottle of beer.
