With all of those mouth-watery Italian favourites out there to choose from, your options are a little less than authentic. What’s a matter with you, huh?The vision for Tappo was a collaboration of two old friends Armando Russo and NHL’er Shayne Corson whom have shared a friendship lasting over 25yrs. The dream of opening a restaurant was always a hot topic over the years and has now come to fruition. Well established now and thriving, Tappo Wine Bar & Restaurant is a fixture in the historic Distillery District. Armando always had dreams of opening his own restaurant that would not only carry on family traditions, but also the comfort and feeling of home. Shayne, having worked a little in the family restaurant in Barrie which his mother ran, also had similar aspirations. After Shayne’s playing career, the vision that they both dreamed of would come to fruition. Opening up a small but vibrant restaurant in a fairly unknown area in Toronto called the Historic Distillery District once owned by Gooderham and Warts. Tappo would be the name they settled on meaning “corked” in Italian. They would focus on bringing in some of the finest consignment wines, making their guests feel at home when they walked in and wow them with traditional Italian fare. Since the doors opened, Tappo has become not only the place to be in the Distillery, but a place to be seen. See you at Tappo!Reawaken your taste buds with a cornucopia of flavour at Tappo Wine Bar. Now that you have expanded your Italian dining horizons, the world is your meatball. Sure, you and the pizza delivery guy are pretty tight. But he ain’t Italian. The casual, rustic ease of the historic Distillery District fits with the Italian/Mediterranean fare.”- Toronto.com"I was wowed by the rendering where I saw Tappo on your great visual site. I was even more wowed to see that the beautiful images on your site were for real when I visited shortly thereafter. "- Denise B."There is much to be said about Tappo. I enveloped myself in luscious desserts, imbibed in their great wine list, but what stayed with me were the hearty fare, ware romantic glow, and the exceptional service and care I Received"- Dine.to"Executive chef, Marco Spalvieri is spot on. Fresh from a very well-reviewed stint at Casino Rama, Spalvieri trained for a long spell at Centro, working with a long run of big names, from Thuet to Lee."- The Bulletin
