"Carmina Burana" is a thrilling, instantly recognizable cantata, among the 20th century's most popular and enduring musical works. This stirring 1936 piece -- based on works written by 13th-century vagabond poets about life, love, drinking, gaming and more -- is best known for its massive and haunting movement "O Fortuna," which has served as background music for dramatic moments in countless films and TV shows. Carl Orff's powerful musical score and Elizabeth Wistrich's impressive choreography will light up the Spreckels Theatre stage in this City Ballet of San Diego production that features a full orchestra and chorus of over 100 voices. The evening's program will also feature Wistrich's "The Seasons", a gorgeous dance work set to selections from Antonio Vivaldi's famous violin concertos.
