Scout Notes: I'm not pro-fire (unless it's being used safely to toast marshmallows), but I am pro-fireman, and I'm definitely pro-cool-fireman-related-historical-buildings-in-DC. And so is Sixth Engine, one of the best new additions to DC's restaurant scene. Named after the building's previous life as a fire station, Sixth Engine pays homage to DC's history in its design, especially on the second floor, which is breathtaking with its sky-high ceilings, huge bay windows and original wood floor and brick walls. Adding to all the awesome sightage is the plate of food that'll be set in front of you. Cooking is taken very seriously here and it shows. Don't miss the grilled shrimp that's served with coconut curry quinoa and lemongrass pesto. It goes great with a craft beer or cocktail, of which there are lots of both. And although Sixth Engine makes a good setting for dinnertime romance, my favorite time to drop by is for lunch. A meal on the awesome patio here makes any mundane day better.
