Scout Notes: Cajun cuisine: Atlanta has many imitators, but eateries that truly know their way around a sack of crawfish are few and far between. Chef Malik, on the other hand, is the genuine article. A New Orleans native, Malik came to Atlanta post-Katrina and set up shop cooking seafood for people in his backyard. Shortly thereafter, they could hardly keep up with the demand and decided to open up a brick-and-mortar. Sounds legit to us. But don't take our word for it—if you need further proof of Sharky's culinary street cred, just refer to what's coming out of the kitchen. From po-boys and red beans and rice to seafood blackened and seasoned to Cajun perfection, it's pretty clear that Malik has brought a piece of his native NOLA with him to College Park. And if you're extra-hungry for a bite of his Cajun goodness, the aptly named Jaws Platter, a feast of fried fish, shrimp, crab, and hushpuppies, will feed you (and one or two of your closest friends... if you're willing to share). Finish it up with a hot house-made beignet and a cup of Cafe du Monde, and you're ready to laissez les bon temps rouler.
