The San Diego Symphony will be joined by guest violinist Karen Gomyo for a performance of Shostakovich's dark, thrilling Violin Concerto No. 1. Gomyo was the recipient of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2008, and has been hailed by the "Chicago Tribune" as "a first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensity." This Jacobs Masterworks concert will also include Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Dawn on the Moscow River" from "Khovantschina", and the rarely heard Sixth Symphony from Dvorák. This symphony hasn't been played by the orchestra in twenty years, so it will be a special treat for audiences.
