Look, we love a food truck. And one of the coolest things about this city is all the elevated street food that is at our disposal. But, in all honesty, sometimes we just prefer a table surrounded by four walls. Luckily, the guy behind one of our favorite mobile eateries, Bistro Truck, is going indoors, opening up Rustic L.E.S. on the outskirts of the Lower East Side. The new digs feature an intimate dining option, with just six tables in a rustic-looking dining room complete with exposed stone walls and bar, Edison bulb lighting and reclaimed wood tables, which give it an air of stumbling onto someone's remote-yet-stylish cabin. The menu is the same Morocan-Mediterranean fare as Bistro Truck but it does all the things one can't do in the back of a moving kitchen. The menu is broken down into moods: for "Something Adventurous" try the seared foie gras with black mission figs or crispy sweet breads with a balsamic reduction; for "Something Comforting" there's a lamb burger with aged gruyere and duck bacon, braised short-ribs and a grilled lamb chop with Yukon mashed potatoes and garlic confit that has not stopped haunting our dreams since we tried it. (We have delicious dreams.) A full bar begged us to stay long past our meal and close quarters meant we made a fw new friends in our fellow diners and the waitstaff. Stay long enough, and you might even score a brunch date.
