Scout Notes: We can't comment on how many bouncing baby ATLians were born precisely nine months after Snowpocalypse 2011. But one thing's certain, that's when Ronnie John's Beach Cafe got its start. Ronnie and John (we see what you did there) were neighbors, snowed in with just their gumption and a crazy-delicious idea to keep them occupied. They both loved the beach, the surfing culture – and more specifically, the melting-pot of grub that it went along with. Hence, an Asian fusion, beach-style cafe. Yes. This is real—and so, so radically scrumptious. Co-founder, John, boasts an impressive resume with both culinary and surfing (legit, SoCal surfing) experience. And the asian fusion food flying out of this little Marietta kitchen? Well, let's just say, the concrete-jungle dwellers North of the ATL border have been eating it up as fast as these fellas can cook it. And righteously so—it's the type of cozy joint you'd happily sidle up to in between waves. Ronnie John's channels the spirit of a Pacific beach shack plus a little Southern flair: slingin' fish tacos, Hawaiian BBQ burritos and some mean sweet tea with equal aplomb. Their signature Typhoon tacos are delightfully stuffed (coincidentally, after eating 'em, you will be too) with tempura-battered mahi mahi and crowned with asian slaw (mmmm). These ain't your reg'lar fish tacos, son. And for the eyes-as-big-as-their-stomachs crowd, the South Beach plate provides a generous (read: absurdly gigantic) portion of perfectly seasoned chicken katsu on rice with sides of asian slaw and macaroni salad. And then there's the sweet tea. We could talk about that one 'til the tide comes in, but instead we'll just sit here, quietly sipping and ahh-ing. On your lunch break? Between classes? Kids are in school? Here's your chance to kick it with your buds before catching a sick wave. Oh, and surfing the interwebs? Still counts, brah. Menu Highlights: Typhoon Taco, $2.25 South Beach Plate, $6.75 Sweet Tea, $1.35 Short Board Burrito, $4.75 The Big Kahuna Sandwich, $5.75 Hours: Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
