SCOUT NOTES: When I walked into Q’s Restaurant, the first thing I noticed (besides the overwhelming aroma of southern fried goodness) was the way the staff interacted with the customers. On a first name basis with just about everyone who came in, owner James and his tenured staff know what it means to treat your customers like family. Most of the shop’s clientele are twice-a-weekers, and the warmth you feel when you walk through the door comes straight from the restaurant’s roots. James started the eatery for his wife Quovadis (hence the name “Q’s Restaurant”) in 2002 as a means of getting her out from behind the wheel of the cement mixer she’d been driving for years. And while James was born in Korea, his Atlanta-native wife was able to contribute all of her southern food recipes when they decided to open up shop. Now about that food. A veritable smorgasbord of southern staples, Q’s is putting out downright deliciousness in the form of fried chicken, oxtails, and turkey wings. Finish the plate off with your choice of sides—everything from okra to mac ‘n cheese to Brussels sprouts (a crowd favorite). But make sure to save room for dessert. Homemade cakes, cobblers, and banana pudding are a perfect (and tasty) way to wrap things up. And guaranteed, as you roll yourself out the door, you’ll already be thinking about what you want to eat next time you come to Q’s.
