Scout Notes: Seattle’s beer scene has been bubbling over since Outlander Brewing & Pub opened its doors in early August. A Victorian-style house built in 1900 is the home of this relaxing watering hole. The nano brewing operations are set up in the basement with the cozy pub located on the main floor. The brainchild of Dragan Radulovic and Nigel Lassiter, Outlander specializes in creating unusual handcrafted beers. The pub features three rotating varieties of Outlander brew at a time, of flavors like Vanilla Jasmine Porter, Strawberry Wheat, and Peanut Butter Stout (look for this one to return in the coming weeks). New beers are released weekly and posted on their website. They remain on tap until the keg runs dry—which can be pretty fast in these thirsty parts! The monthly Beer Poll gives customers a chance to vote on a future flavor to be featured. September’s winner: the Bragott beer, which will be a BIG honey beer weighing in at 10-15% ABV. Look for its release in December or later. In addition to Outlander’s unique suds, you’ll find five guest beers on tap and a variety of bottles and cans. The pub’s charming décor embodies the time period when the house was built, from the re-purposed antique chairs and tables to the working phonograph and a bar crafted from an old church door. The vibe is casual and cozy with Beers and Boards night on Sunday where patrons are invited to BYOB (bring your own board-game) or choose from one of the many on-hand. Every first Wednesday Outlander Brew Crew is hosted by Nigel, where home brewers are invited to come and “talk shop,” sample beer and bring their own home brews to share. Special orders are welcome and new flavor suggestions are encouraged. If you can dream it, Nigel can brew it!
