Class is once again in session. Instead of sitting through the same old history lecture -- after all, the same side always wins the war -- join a school of fish with today's deal from Aquatic Sports: Pay $245 for a Basic Scuba course and a Northwest Aquatic Life Reef Identification course (a $495 value). Since 1966, this southwest Portland dive shop has provided professional diving instruction and stocked scuba equipment of all kinds. The Basic course -- open to ages ten and up -- is taught over three weekends by certified Scuba Schools International (SSI) instructors; the Saturday sessions meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and include both classroom and pool time (participants must supply their own snorkeling equipment). Following the course work, each student will complete four 60-minute practice dives in Aquatic Sports's pool to ensure safe practices are followed. To prep you for underwater encounters, the aquatic life identification course will educate you on the marine animals found along the Northwest's reefs -- new knowledge you'll want to sink in.
