When Jewish Confederate officer Caleb DeLeon returns home during the Passover of 1865, he finds his house in ruins, his family missing, and a pair of former slaves, Simon and John. As the two are forced to care for a badly injured DeLeon, all three men confront their pasts through the roles of master and slave in The Whipping Man, one of the most produced plays in the country this year.
