"The Gin Game", winner of the 1978 Pulitzer Prize, uses gin rummy as a metaphor for life. While playing a solitary game of cards, Weller meets Fonsia, a prim lady having a hard time adjusting to her new surroundings at a home for the aged. Through their games, progressively and surprisingly, they discover passions, dislikes -- and even one another's secrets. In this tragi-comedy, we see the lives of two souls shuffled and played out to each other over a well-worn score pad. The original Broadway production of "The Gin Game" ran for 516 performances with its original cast of Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy.
