There's a place in Mt. Pleasant where the food is fine, the drinks are aplenty and the vibe is one that feels like home—big brother's soccer trophies even adorn the shelves against the walls. In this case, though, your big bro is a friendly Greek man named Haris, and he happens to own this family-run neighborhood bar and restaurant. And thankfully, not only are he and his crew adept with a soccer ball (as well as philanthropic—Marx Cafe sponsors several area teams); they're also pretty good in the kitchen, which recently became even more evident when Haris and his chef added about a dozen new mouth-watering items to the menu. "We like to change things up seasonally," Haris told us, while we dug into the brand-new Burrata Mozzarella & Prosciutto salad that comes gussied up with fresh basil and a pyramid of diced tomatoes marinated in an aromatic olive oil. "Right now, we especially wanted to create items that were refreshing for warmer weather." Consider this a full success then. We followed the salad up with a few Mediterranean-style tapas dishes and a hearty helping of Beer-Battered Cod Fish & Chips, all made fresh, to-order and in-house. And no meal at Marx would be complete without clinking our wine and pint glasses with our nearest neighbors... who really are our nearest neighbors (this place doesn't joke around with its go-to neighborhood status).
