Scout Notes: One of best things about living in DC is that it's not New York. No offense, Big Apple, but as someone who's been there, done that, I prefer the quieter life. Or at least the fact that I can afford to rent a room that's larger than a small walk-in closet. Heck, I can rent an entire apartment here! Of course, there is one thing about New York I miss more than anything. The pizza. I have literally dreamt about it. The hand-stretched dough, all made from scratch and cooked up in an oven hot enough to put just the right amount of char on the crust and bubble on the cheese. So, when I walked into Marvelous Pizza in a low-key strip mall right on H Street, I had to pinch myself. Was this real life? Slices are available but the real beauties here are the whole pies, all made-to-order with hand-crated dough, homemade sauce and topped with the customer's choice of over 30 toppings. I'm a classic pepperoni lover, which always hits the spot, as do the calzones, which are pretty much as big as at least a large pizza. And while the food's great, the hours are what make this place an ever-increasing neighborhood favorite. It doesn't close till 3 a.m. on weeknights and 4 a.m. on the weekend. My late nights just got tastier.
