Description

80,000 visitors a year pass through the doors of Lowell Observatory, and for good reason. Since its founding in 1894, Lowell has been at the center of some of astronomy’s biggest breakthroughs, such as the discovery of Pluto and the first evidence of an expanding universe. Lowell Observatory was founded with the intention of doing major research and presenting these results directly to the public. Engaging students and researchers at all levels, as well as the Navajo and Hopi reservations, Lowell Observatory has brought the universe home. The knowledgeable docents lead a variety of fascinating tours for you to enjoy. The Mars Tour includes a viewing of the Alvan Clark Refractor, and the Pluto Tour takes guests through the history of this object’s discovery. During the day, there’s lunchtime solar viewings, with telescope viewing of Jupiter, the Moon, star clusters and other celestial objects in the evening. If you’ve ever looked up at the stars and wondered what was up there, here’s your chance to see for yourself.
