Scout Notes: With its unassuming storefront in quaint, downtown East Point, it’s not immediately apparent that behind the doors of Lov’n It Live lies an oasis. Sure, the interior space is cozy and full of natural sunlight, vibrant foliage, and soothing music, and the staff is warm and attentive. But the real respite comes from the food--all lovingly made-to-order, it’s just like mom would’ve made if she’d prepared only 100% organic, raw, and vegan cuisine. Following the philosophy that food is medicine, Judy and Vincent used raw vegan foods instead of pharmaceuticals to bring Vincent back to thriving health following his stroke. Inspired by his recovery and eager to share the love, they opened Lov’n It Live in 2005. If you think raw foods are synonymous with boring salads or bland bowls of lawn clippings, think again. While they offer the requisite fresh juices and tonics, their menu boasts more variety than many restaurants that utilize ovens and microwaves. It’s full of dishes not typically associated with raw, vegan cuisine like pizza, burgers, nachos, and more. And desserts? No fruit trays here, just the luscious likes of treats including berry cheesecake, brownies, and sweet potato pie. As I bit into their most popular appetizer, a lush avocado stuffed with savory nutmeat and topped with impossibly fresh pico de gallo, I had to fight the urge to go all Meg Ryan from When Harry Met Sally. One thing’s for sure--no matter what you choose, it will be so uniquely delicious that the person next to you will want to have what you’re having.
