Action sequences aren't the provenance of movie studios exclusively. Let us script you into your own Hollywood caper with this Adventure: an afternoon of trapeze, high ropes, and swings over the Pacific plus a team building boat-making contest. We'll roll in like stunt devils to Camp Hess Kramer, located just north of Zuma Beach. Our good hosts from Fulcrum Adventures will be waiting for us with gear, safety equipment, appetizer snacks and plenty of positive vibes. LivingSocial staff will also be on hand to guide us in logistics and cheer us on. After picking up key trapeze and roping tips, we'll get acquainted with the course's multitude of elevated cross-beams, wood frames, and heavy-duty ladders. Take in the exquisite flora and the bouncing kaleidoscope water of the ocean as we rip through the air catching our partners mid-swing or avoiding false steps navigating a thin, tall plank. With ample altitude in the bag, we'll take it down a notch and bone up on our nautical bona fides. Equipped with a smatter of adhesives, a miscellany of buoyant objects, and team spirit, we'll compete against each other to assemble a veritable dinghy that can keep us above water—no CGI necessary.
If these cold temps mean you're getting more of a workout by dodging those fixed-gear hipsters in Wicker Park than you are by not going to the gym (thinking about it doesn't count if you don't follow through), it's time to use the frozen air to your advantage. Lock your feet into this Adventure for two: an overnight skiing trip with a brewery tour, lift tickets, lodging, meals, and round-trip transportation. Grab your best ski partner and head to 600 North Clark on a Saturday morning where we'll meet up with our team of thrill seekers and a premier coach bus, all waiting to take us to the slopes. During our 3.5-hour ride to Devil's Head Resort, we'll enjoy coffee, fruit, and breakfast pastries and grab our all-day Saturday lift tickets from our team. Be sure to wear some warm skiing threads—we'll be heading straight for the slopes from Chicago. Equipment is available for rental and included in the package for $40 more, or, those who have their own equipment can feel free to bring it along. Plus, we'll also all receive a lunch voucher that we can use at multiple venues on the mountain. Once we've worked up an appetite from cutting up the slopes, we'll head down to the base of the mountain and file into Smokies Lodge which has a bar with a huge circular fireplace, wrap around deck, and great views of the 1/2 pipe and terrain park. We'll fill up on a make-your-own-baked potato bar with s'mores and drinks—including a Spotted Cow draft beer—to boot. We'll then ride over to The Campus Inn on State Street in downtown Madison, Wisconsin where we'll check in to our rooms, drop off our bags, and head across the street to State Street Brats, one of Madison's best sports bars, for an aprés-ski party with snacks and beer. In the morning, we'll jumpstart our engines with a continental breakfast at the inn and head over to Capital Brewery for a tour and tasting of the suds at this treasured brew house. We'll enjoy one of Wisconsin's best breweries and have lunch at the brewery before making our trek back to the Windy City around 2 p.m. on Sunday. Don't let the confines of Chi-City blocks keep the fun out of winter—simply sign on for this Adventure and see the mountain of fun waiting just above the border.
