Scout Notes:When art meets science, form meets function and the insufficiently illuminated meet master lighting designer Yaacov Golan and his staff at The Lighting Loft&#151the results are pure magic. There really is no other word to describe the emporium of electrical delights that is their newly debuted Miami Circle showroom. Hundreds (thousands if you count the individual bulbs) of glowing, twinkling and shifting lights brighten the massive space, mounted along nearly every surface and beautifully encased and accented by everything from glass, crystal and metal, to wood, fabric and paper. With an owner who can trace his passion for lighting design back 30 years, to the beautifully lit halls and walls of the Israel Museum (no wonder the space looks more haute art exhibit, less mere lighting shop), the Lighting Loft's newest location caters to the light-styles of the rich and famous, without leaving the rest of us in the dark. Walk in with almost any budget and you can walk out with a lighting solution that fits just right. And if you've got an especially tricky space, or are looking for something one-of-a-kind, they do custom designs, too. The huge, Swarovski-and raw-crystal-studded chandelier glittering in the front window like a giant, bejeweled jellyfish? One of Yaacov's son Jonathan's custom creations. After spending close to an hour wandering through the shimmering labyrinth, dragging my jaw behind me, I finally zeroed in on some mod-inspired desk lamps and a coordinating floor lamp that would: 1) Fit in my pocket-sized, studio apartment, and 2) Complement my inimitable IKEA-meets-MOMA decorating style. And after a mini-tutorial from Yaacov on how lighting can make or break a space, I’ve committed to some long overdue personal enlightenment. That’s right folks: my trusty, clip-on booklight’s days are officially numbered. Hours: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturdays 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Closed Sundays Light it up! The Grand Opening Celebration is slated for October 18
