SCOUT NOTES: We all have preconceived notions about places we’ve never been, and historically we ITP-ers can be a little closed-minded about venturing outside of our happy little in-town bubble. But occasionally we can be persuaded, and often are pleasantly surprised by what we find. Such was the case with my visit to Main Street in Tucker. The cutest little street you probably never knew existed is home to a tight knit community (and a pretty stellar high school football team), and smack dab in the middle of the neighborhood is four month old Las Colinas, a family run Mexican joint boasting flavorful Tex-Mex dishes (everything from fajitas and tacos to molcajete, a pot of sizzling meats and veggies, topped with a grilled cactus leaf and a skewer of shrimp) and an abundance of tequila-laden libations—their long list of flavored margaritas includes a customer favorite called the Margarona: a frozen marg with a mini bottle of Corona sitting upside down in the glass. Um, yes please. But for co-owners Juan Ramirez and his uncle José, Las Colinas is about way more than just food and drink. The brand new eatery’s big sister location in Lithonia has been around since 1989, and the company’s mission has continually been about offering top notch customer service. Juan’s priority numero uno is making his diners feel like family, so it’s no wonder that guests quickly become regulars after their first time in. And with live music every Tuesday and Wednesday evening, Las Colinas is the perfect place to wind down midweek. Just make sure to come hungry.
