VINO AND VAMPIRES Spend the day with the family in all their Halloween-costumed glory while surrounded by the beauty of Maryland’s premier winery destination. Owners Patricia and Daniel Tamminga host this event on the grounds of their vineyard, Detour Winery, to celebrate all things frightfully fun on October 27. Children are invited to attend in their most creative costumes for judging and adults can win too for their best Halloween finery. There will also be live jazz music. Hayrides and family-friendly activities will run from noon to 4pm. Live latin and jazz blends from the band Otherwize H2H will play from noon to 2pm and 2:30pm to 4:30pm. The night will finish with a spooky hayride around the vineyard and a bonfire complete with s’mores, hot apple cider and the debut of their bonfire wassail will cap off the evening. Children under 18 are free with a paying adult, so bring the entire clan for a fall festival that'll have you dreaming of autumn’s finest hours in the peaceful countryside of Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains. That's some serious Americana right there. TRIVIA Daniel comes to winemaking honestly, his father and grandfather crafted wines at home. Ask for some of his favorite varietals! Some history folk actually claim that Prince Charles is a descendant of Vlad the Impaler, the alleged son of Dracula. An old wives' tale claims that wearing your clothes inside out and walking backwards will guarantee a witch siting at midnight.
