A tortilla wrapper doesn’t necessarily mean that burrito you’re eating is the real deal. La Palapa serves south-of-the-border fare “Mexico City style,” which means there’s no Tex in this Mex. Fresh herbs and traditional spices mix and meld in dishes so authentic they’ve been collected in a cookbook. Grilled duck breast arrives smothered in rich Oaxacan mole while roasted poblano chiles stuffed with crumbled queso fresco and Cotija cheeses bob in spiced tomato seas. All dishes are “cooked with love” (Zagat) and pair well with a house-pressed juice or one of the 50-plus tequilas on the drink menu.
