Description
The Destination Not just a wintertime ski destination, Big Bear Lake offers a breath of mountain-fresh air throughout the year. Far from the concrete jungles of Southern California, yet less than 100 miles from all of SoCal, this rustic outpost in the San Bernardino Mountains is situated at 7,000 feet above sea level and affords easy access to hundreds of miles of hiking trails, not to mention the centerpiece of the region, the 6.5-square-mile Big Bear Lake. Here, locals and visitors alike descend on the water, paddles and fishing poles in hand, to soak up the sun and commune with nature at a leisurely pace. The Digs Built 1920 by William Knickerbocker himself, the Knickerbocker Mansion Country Inn is tucked away on two and a half acres of forested land just three blocks from the village of Big Bear. It hosts four carriage house rooms, each with rustic charm and vintage décor. Halved logs make up the mansion's exterior, and two original stone fireplaces warm up the cozy interior. But just because you're in a log cabin, don't expect outmoded dining options. You'll each enjoy an included gourmet two-course breakfast served to you each morning that includes fresh fruit, a hot entree, a sweet treat, coffee, and juice. The Diversions • Tuck into rack of lamb and Chef Robert's lobster mac 'n' cheese at the on-site Bistro at the Mansion • Hit the mountain bike park, golf courses, and hiking trails of Big Bear Mountain Resorts • Arrange a guided fishing trip on the lake with Fish Big Bear • Stroll the shops of Big Bear Lake Village
