Scout Notes: Here's the thing about sports bars: they're usually generic, classless drinking joints without any general sense of history or character. Not so at Jack Doyles, named after an actual Irish-American baseball player whose career in the MLB spanned 17 years in the late 1800s. "Dirty Jack" Doyle would be proud of the establishment that is keeping his name alive today. Walk in out of the cluster that is Herald Square and your transported to a warm, dark-wood walled dining room and bar with strategic flat screens projecting various sporting events, including a little European soccer. Belly up to the bar and drink from a number of tap beers and full cocktail list, or grab one of the tables upstairs and graze their ample menu of bar staples like Buffalo Wings and Killorglin Fries (steak, American cheese, mushrooms, and sauteed onions), plus larger fare like a Steak Sandwich, Corned Beef Reuben Sandwich or the Jack Doyle Burger with Irish bacon, sauteed onions and mushrooms.
