Georgia Brown's Coupons and Deals
Scout Notes: Just a hop, skip or a CaBi ride from the White House, Georgia Brown’s is a Washington institution in its own right. I can’t even imagine how many mountains of fried green tomatoes, fried chicken and gumbo this oh-so-charming Southern restaurant has dished out for regulars, politicos and celebs alike since it opened in 1993. Yes, everyone, from Michelle Obama, Rosa Parks, Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton to Hova + Bey, has hit up Georgia Brown’s for heaping portions of Southern hospitality and Low Country cuisine. “It’s almost a rite of passage. When you take office, you have to come to Georgia Brown’s,” says Chef Tom Crenshaw. I'm not president (yet) but, I came to try the Louisiana “Devil” shrimp, a.k.a. shrimp stuffed with crabcake, served with a side of mac & cheese and spinach. It's decadent, to say the least. And I also couldn’t stop eating the jambalaya, a mix of dirty rice, Andouille sausage, shrimp, crab, chicken breast and duck confit. It’s comfort food for the soul, in an atmosphere that captures the tailored side of the South. We're talkin' less Honey Boo Boo and more Scarlet O'Hara, with white tablecloths, live jazz and to-die-worthy slices of Red Velvet cake.
