Set in the fictional Japanese town of Titipu (where flirting is a capital offense), this great comic operetta follows the trail of wandering minstrel Nanki-Poo, who falls in love with the fair Yum-Yum, who happens to be engaged to the town's newly appointed Lord High Executioner. A deliciously intelligent satire, the Japanese setting allowed Gilbert and Sullivan to slyly mask their commentary on contemporary British society. This time-honored yet surprisingly modern tale of star-crossed lovers features the beloved tunes "Three Little Maids From School Are We" and "A Wand'ring Minstrel I," and is produced in high style by the New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players.
