El Taco Real started because of a comment made by a man to his wife. Raymundo Alcorta Garcia told his wife, Esther, that her cooking was good enough to be served in a restaurant. The year was 1972. It took Mr. and Mrs. Garcia that entire summer to scout for locations, and come up with a down payment. After seriously considering a rental lease in Hessville, the Garcia's chose a building that they could actually purchase. That building was located in an urban residential neighborhood far from the growing suburban south counties.El Taco Real admitted it's first customers on April Fools Day in 1974. Mrs. Garcia's friends from N.I.P.S.Co. were among the first to contribute to it's customer base. Along with locals from the neighborhood, and business people looking for an option for lunch, El Taco Real catered to everybody without regard to their ethnic, political, or economic status. This open door policy, along with the Garcia's friendly and generous attitude, led to a feeling of complete comfort in the fledgling restaurant. Customers were treated as family and portion size were family size.
