Scout Notes: The Aztecs brought us chocolate. The Italians brought us Nutella. The Japanese brought us the ability to smite one's foes with turtle shells. And here in Atlanta, Eclipse di Luna brought us tapas. With "small plates" showing up on menus left and right these days (no, sports bars, wings do not count), it's hard to imagine an Atlanta without them. But fifteen years ago, ATL was going totally tapa-less... until this happening little joint set up shop in the back of Miami Circle. And even though there might nowadays be many an imitator, Eclipse is still the O.G. of small plate-nibbling, mojito-sipping, and Latin jazz-dancing. Their regulars and their many awards say so, and so do we. Eclipse di Luna didn't just bring us the idea of small plates — they brought us a new way of eating, where the more curious, less decisive among us (ahem) can nibble from a spread of plates rather than having to pick just one big dish. And here, that's exactly what you'll want to do, because Eclipse di Luna's menu is way too good to decide on just one. How might you ever choose between Spanish short ribs, seared octopus, P.E.I. mussels in salsa verde, traditional paella, or crispy, golden spiced potatoes? Life's just so much better when the answer to that question is "all of the above." Especially when one or two of Eclipse's famous mojitos, sangrias, caipirinhas, or infused tequilas enter the equation. The live Latin and jazz bands who take the stage every night provide the perfect soundtrack for all that nibbling, sipping, and sampling (and perhaps, given the right number of fruit-infused tequila beverages, a little dancing?), making it all the more fun to try a little bit of everything. Culinary monogamy is so fifteen years ago. Menu Highlights: Patatas Bravas con Romesco (Spiced Potatoes), $4.50 Costillas Espanolas (Spanish Ribs), $5.95 Gambas al Ajillo (Sauteed Shrimp & Garlic), $6.25 Mefillones con Salsa Verde (Mussels), $6.75 Pulpo Sarteneado (Seared Octopus), $6.50 Paella del Dia $18-$20 (for two) Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 11 a.m. - 12 a.m. Sunday & Monday, 5 p.m. - 10 p.m.
