Scout Notes: Working and/or living in Sliver Spring is about to get tastier and more convenient. That's thanks to the brain of Adolfo Mendez, owner of Cubano's, who's about to unveil a new lunch menu at this restaurant. "The idea is to allow for home-cooked meals with quicker service," he said. Which means, essentially, patrons can feel like they've taken a long lunch without having wasted any time. And after having sampled the deliciousness that is Cubano's many months ago, I, for one support this quicker service. It means less time between when I say, "I'll go with the Mi Tierra Sampler Plate," and when my taste buds get to enjoy three different Cubano's specialities. Pictured above, the dish comes with Ropa Vieja (shredded beef in a Cuban-style sauce of tomato, garlic, onion and peppers) Lechón Asado (tender roasted pork in an orange marinade), and Fricasé de Pollo (chicken on the bone slow-cooked and served with a hearty red wine tomato sauce). Vegetarians will love the hearty portions of Moros y Cristianos (spiced rice and beans) and sweet plantains, as well as the Parrillada de Vegetales, a grilled dish chock full of all sorts of healthy treats. But of course, the best vegetarian treat in Cubano's is the mojito.
