Scout Notes: Unlike the stereotypical image of the suburbs many of us have, parts of the Ballston neighborhood in Arlington are definitely different. As I approached Covet, for example, nestled on the second floor of a stand-alone house off of Wilson Blvd. (i.e., not a suburban strip mall), I felt like I was going home, well, to what I aspire my home to look like one day. Pay attention to the stairs as you walk in. Tthere's some awesome typography art you don't want to miss. Then be prepared to covet everything. Yes, the name of the shop really does have meaning. Basically, it's like an IRL Etsy, featuring local artisans, crafters and artists, as well as other awesome indie gift regalia. I was instantly drawn to the plushy animal-inspired pillows and a few large pieces of wall art. "My friend paints those," said Autumn, the friendly owner, whose eye for style is evident in all three cozy rooms of this upstairs store.
